Rajshahi`s  Silk Sari.

Silk Sari of Rajshahi: In the Rajshahi region known as the Barind region of Bangladesh, since it is produced only with silk fiber, it is called Rajshahi Silk Sari. Rajshahi silk is a very fine and soft fiber. The fibrous material is a pupa which comes from mulberry silk, and it is a coating of the protein called sarcina.

 

Variety of silk sari:

1. Mulberry silk

2. Eri Silk

3. Tasar silk.

 

Beginning of silk production:

Silk spread in Bengal in the thirteenth century. At that time its name was, Bangla Silk. In 1952, the Pakistani government started silk production in Rajshahi. The first state-owned silk factory was established in 1982, under the name, "Rajshahi Silk Factory.”

 

The production process:

Silk yarn is used to produce larvae. Then they are raised by eating mulberry leaves. As a result mulberry has to be cultivated. Silk cocoons are obtained from larvae. The desired yarn is obtained from the silk. It has to be made usable in a few steps. Then yarn is made from this yarn. Thane cloth has to be steamed and brought in different colors. Then it is dried in the sun, and made usable. That is not the end. There are various designs to be done on this Thane cloth. These include block print, batik print, soft print, screen print, appliquéing, embroidery, handpaint.

 

Size and price:

Silk saris of different prices are available in these showrooms in different designs. Rajshahi silk saris ranging from one thousand rupees to the lakhs of rupees are available. However, the demand for medium priced silk sari, which can be purchased between Rs 4,000-6,000, is relatively high.

 

Location:

Although 8-10 factories are involved in production, there are 6 companies in marketing. Their showrooms sell clothes and various garments made from them. At present Sapura Silk, Usha Silk, Mahua Silk, Nisa Silk, Rajshahi Silk, Rajshahi Silk Fashion House and Faujdar Silk Fashion is associated with the sale of silk products in BSCIC area of Rajshahi.
